Thanksgiving Holiday

Lakeshore will be CLOSED in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday Wednesday, Nov 21-24.

HOWEVER....we WILL have practice on Saturday, November 24 to prepare for Jamfest competition the next weekend. (This is the makeup for the Flurries for missing November 3)

Admission
Admission is FREE! Use this to your advantage and invite friends and family to support our athletes! There will be no schedules given out at the event, so print them prior to coming or access them on your smart phones.

Videography
There will not be an official videographer or photographer onsite, so feel free to snap pictures and take video!

There will be a JAMwear booth available onsite to purchase 2012-2013 JAMfest gear.

Parking in some lots will be offered for $5. There is a parking garage located right on the Civic Center lot. Let her is also parking directly behind the building in the Educational Lot, on the north side of the building, and across the street at the Nationwide Insurance building.

November 3, 2012 - Kalahari Competition

Event Times
Doors will open at 6:30 am and the last performance of the day is around 8:00 pm.

  • Twisters: Arrive 2:30, Perform 4:09, Awards 5:12
Please arrive ON TIME. We use this time to get together as a team, focus on the routine, stretch, and walk through several parts before of the routine before we go to the practice area.

Admission and Parking
Free! Invite all of your friends and family. The more support, the better!!!

Practice Area
Due to another event happening simultaneously in the Kalahari Ballroom, the practice area is restricted to coaches and athletes only. Please do not sit in the hallways or open areas near the Kalahari Ballroom so that everyone in the other half of the ballrooms can get to their event.

General Seating
Seating is first come first serve. There is a VIP Standing area in front of the stage to be used only when your team is performing. Entrance and exit signs will be set up for this area and a holding area is on the floor level. Please exit quickly so that the next team's parents can rotate in.

Step and Repeat
After the team has performed, they will be able to meet with their coaches, get a drink of water, watch their performance playback and then continue out into the hallway. The Step and Repeat is back inside the main performance venue and the team can meet their parents there and have pictures taken with all the lighting that everyone needs to enable them to take pictures in the venue. Parents, coaches, and fans can all take pictures of their team in this area. Please be respectful of other teams as a new team will be entering approximately every 5 minutes.

Theme
The theme for the event is HALLOWEEN ROCK. Come in your best Halloween or rocking attire. The emcee and DJ are on the lookout for programs that are Rock'n out the theme and showing the best sportsmanship to win the Spirit Award. If you are not wearing Halloween gear, please represent our program with Lakeshore attire.

Event Schedule
Because the event is free to spectators, GLCC is going green. There will a limited number of schedules available at the event. See www.greatlakesspirit.com to download and print a copy of your schedule or you can acess it at any time on your smart phone at the same website address.

Awards
Unless previously approved by a coach, all athletes are expected to be with their team during their awards ceremony. Please be IN UNIFORM (This includes hair, and shoes). Each team will receive a placement plaque during the awards ceremony.

Grand Champion: Grand champion lanyards for each team atehlete and one banner for the gym.
Guitar: Teams with the best spirit and sportsmanship
Turned Up Transitions: New and creative transitions during the routine
Blaring Energy: Team that makes it all the way through their routine with energy to spare - most fun routine on the floor during the session.
Roaring Routine: Strong jumps and tumbling throughout. Creative jumps and tumbling sequence.
Groovy Grillz: Team that keeps their smiles/facials all the way through the routine.
Mix Masters: Team with new and innovative music
Overall Rockin Performance: Teams that make the judges say "wow" all the way through the routine
Full Volume Fans: Team with the LOUDEST, most supportive fan base

Photography and Video
Photo and video are allowed at all GLCC events. If you are taking photos or video, please keep cameras and iPads down as to not block the judges view of the floor. There will also be a professional videographer at this event.

Rock Shop
JAMWear will be for sale at a booth in the main lobby.

Venue Rules
Smoking and consumption of alcoholic beverages is not permitted in the venue. Each venue also reserves the right to inspect all bags on entrance to the event and remove any item that they do not allow into the venue; this includes outside food and items deemed hazardous.

Food
The venue will provide food and drinks for purchase on site and can be consumed anywhere on the premises. Food and drink purchased outside the arena cannot be brought in.

Security
In the event of a security issue, please locate a GLCC staff member in a yellow or purple shirt or a Kalahari Resort staff member. Please make sure all athletes are not permitted to roam the venue unattended as as admission is open to the public.

USASF Rule Changes for 2012-2013 Season

On March 28, 2012, the USASF released several new rule changes that will have a huge impact on the upcoming season as well as tryouts and team placements. Here is a quick summary of the rule changes:

UNIFORM:
  • Skirts must completely cover briefs (doesn't matter if they are boy shorts) and must be a minimum of 1" past briefs. If uniform bottoms are shorts, they must have a 2" inseam
  • Mid-driff or cropped tops are only allowed for Senior level teams and can't be more than 10" of stomach showing. Tops must have at least 1 strap holding it up, no tube tops.
  • Make-Up: Face/eyelid rhinestones are no longer allowed. Makeup should be not be over glitzy. (Makeup rules will not be enforced until the 2013-14 season)
  • Bows should not be excessive in size-generally no more than 3" in width. They should not cover the eyelid as to pose a safety risk.
TUMBLING:
  • Standing fulls and standing double fulls are no longer allowed.
  • Double fulls can only be in running tumbling and following a backhandspring.
  • Consecutive bounding, twisting skills not allowed.
AGE GRID:
  • All open team members must be a minimum of 17 years old
  • No Mini 3 division anymore
  • Restrictions on Youth 5 -No kick doubles in baskets, No tumbling double fulls, No twisting braced flips.
  • Top age for Youth teams is now 12 instead of 11
  • No longer separate Junior Coed 3 and 4 from counterpart All Girl teams
  • Minimum age for senior teams, level 1-4 =10 years old. Level 5=12

2012-2013 TRYOUTS

Lakeshore Storm All-Stars will be having a SHOWCASE for their friends, family, and communities! The kids will be demonstrating their skills gained throughout the year as well as their routines that they have been competing all season! Admission to the showcase is FREE, and will be a great opportunity for everyone to see the gym and how hard our athletes have worked all year!
                Showcase: April 15 - 2:00 pm FREE ADMISSION
Open Gyms: If you, or your child, want to be a part of our Storm family, come see what practices are all about during our open gyms. Your child will have the opportunity to practice tumbling, stunting, and jumps. If you are new to the gym, please take a few minutes to come inside the office and fill out a waiver form. Your child will not be able to participate without a signed waiver! The price of open gyms are $5/day for anybody not currently on the cheer team.
                Ages 5-8: April 18 and 25: 6-7:30 pm and April 21, 28: 9:00-11:00 am
                Ages 9-14: April 17, 19, 24, 26: 5:30-7:30 pm and April 21, 28: 1:00-3:00 pm
                Ages 15-18: April 17, 19, 24, 26: 6:30-8:30 pm and April 21, 28: 11:00-1:00 pm
Tryouts: Please wear a white shirt/tank and black shorts with indoor-only shoes. Hair must be pulled back out of face in ponytail. No jewelry. We will be charging a non-refundable tryout fee** of $25. This fee will pay for your USASF membership fee, which is mandatory for all athletes during the 2012-2013 season. **If you decide not to be a part of the team, this will not be refunded.**
TRYOUT DATES: May 1, 3, AND 5 -- Please note that all 3 days are mandatory.
                 Ages 4-8: 5:30-6:30
                 Ages 9-14: 6:30-7:30
                Ages 14-18: 7:30-8:30

**We will be having a Tiny team, ages 3-5, next year too! No tryout necessary. Classes will start in the summer (probably June). Please sign up in office if you're interested!**
