2012-2013 Hair (Blizzards, Hurricanes, Twisters)

Hair for Blizzards, Hurricanes, and Twisters should be secured in a high ponytail directly on top of the head. Absolutely NO beads or braids are allowed at competition and hair must be straight.

Tips for getting hair to stay all day:
  • Do NOT wash hair right before competition. Dirty hair holds style better than clean hair.
  • Pull hair on top of head and secure with ponytail holder. Then, spray sections of hair with hairspray and use a comb to pull hair securely up to the ponytail (there will be a large bump by the ponytail holder). Continue around the head until all sections have been sprayed and pulled into ponytail. Unsecure the original ponytail holder, comb all bumps into the pony, and resecure.
  • Use thick ponytail holders
  • Secure fly aways with hairspray and bobby pins
  • Do NOT use hairbow as your ponytail holder. Hairbow put in AFTER pony is secure.
  • The ponytail holder of the hairbow should be underneath the actual ponytail holder used to secure hair in order to ensure the bow does not fall out on the floor.
2012-2013 Hairbow - Thanks for modeling, Coach Sarah!

If you are interested in putting a "pouf" on top of your head in addition to the ponytail, see below for directions:

Step 1: Dry and straighten hair. "Dirty" hair works best.

Step 2: Pull small amount of hair from the forehead. Use a teasing brush or comb to tease  from the back of the hair up to forehead. Spray with hairspray from behind. The teasing should create a "poof" or "bump." Use bobby pins to secure this in place about 1 inch behind hair line.

Step 3: Pull hair from right behind ears up to the bump and continue around until it is in a full ponytail. Secure with small pony tail holder directly behind the poof.  This ponytail should still be on top of head. DO NOT USE HAIR BOW AS YOUR PONYTAIL HOLDER.

Step 4:  Secure bow around the pony tail holder with tail of bow falling above eyes.  Spray with hairspray to secure.
